It’s been one of those weeks over here. You know the kind I am talking about … one where life throws you some curves that you weren’t expecting. Not only did I start a new rotation which alone brings a little bit of anxiety and stress but Chris brought home some news from work that was unexpected and that I am still wrapping my head around. Vague-blogging much? Needless to say I am feeling a tad bit stressed and needing to find an outlet.
So I went for a run.
Running for me is the best therapy. It relieves my stress and clears my head. I do my best thinking when I am on a run. It’s just me and the pavement. When I have some big things to work out I ditch the music and find solitude in the silence. Lately I haven’t had as much time for running as I would like. I haven’t ran a race since the beginning of PA school. I haven’t been training for a single thing.
But there is beauty in that too. I run just to run. No expectations. No requirements. No guilt. I get to do something that is not only good for my physically but necessary for me mentally. I am not someone who relishes in the unknown. I like to have a plan. I like to be able to prepare. But life doesn’t always follow the rule book and being able to adjust accordingly is critical. I am working on that flexibility and trying hard to find the excitement in the possibility as opposed to fear in the unknown. Until then at least I have my sneakers and a pretty awesome family to help me along the way.
PS – if you like my new running gear above make sure to check out Zappos! Not only do they sell shoes but they also have an amazing selection of athletic apparel and a super convenient return policy! Zappos is also the sponsor for Bay to Breakers in San Francisco which is the oldest consecutively run footrace in the world!
