As I sit here Sunday night writing this post I am officially 39 weeks pregnant and have been pregnant 2 days longer than I was with Em. I am not surprised since most women deliver sometime between 39-41 weeks but from here on out I am in uncharted (for me) pregnancy territory 🙂
What is baby up to at 39 weeks pregnant?
- Baby is the size of a small watermelon – or over 7 lbs and 20 inches long. I am guessing that Baby B is probably beating these averages if she is anything like her sister.
- She is continuing to build fat layers to help with her temperature regulation after birth. I love me some chunky babies 😉
How is mama feeling?
Weight Gain: I am sitting at +23 pounds gained. I don’t think I am going to gain much more at this point but you never know!
Contractions: Boy or boy … where do I start. I have been contracting for weeks off/on now which is much different than with Emmalyne. This past weekend was particularly intense so I am hoping that things are moving in the right direction. I can handle the bowling ball in my stomach but the contractions are kind of getting old at this point.
Progress? I had an OB appointment on Thursday and am 2cm dilated and 60-70% effaced. While that doesn’t mean I will go into labor soon (obviously) my OB did say that once I DO go into labor things should move along nicely which is good to hear! I was less dilated when I went into labor with Em too and things moved fast.
Appetite: I haven’t had an appetite for much this last week. Food itself doesn’t sound great and I am definitely having some nausea to go with it. Soon enough though I will be dealing with the insatiable hunger that comes with nursing 😉
How am I REALLY doing? I am mentally preparing myself to go overdue which isn’t something I think you really CAN do. However, I am also trying not to obsess about things too much at this point and stay as relaxed as possible.
Bringing on Labor: So far we have tried eggplant parmesan and a lot of walking. I’ve been drinking red raspberry leaf tea for weeks and also started evening primrose oil at 37 weeks. Operation baby eviction is in effect!
Honestly that’s about all I got. It was a long weekend and I am hopeful that Baby B will come in the next few days after all the “fun” she has put me through the last couple 😉
