Four. Four years ago my life was changed forever when I met the sweet little girl who would call me mom. I am sitting here in disbelief that my little Emmie could possibly be four, and yet, every day I am reminded about the little lady she is becoming.
Emmalyne is truly a tender soul. She cares about others and absolutely loves animals. One of my favorite things about her is her ability to make friends with anyone. In fact her teacher told me how Emmalyne befriended a little girl in her class who no one else played with due to a language barrier. Not my Emmie – she took her under her wing and became her very best friend.
One of the most amazing things about this last year was seeing Emmalyne embrace her role as big sister. She is constantly playing with Bryn, worries when Bryn is sad, and loves to tell everyone that they are sisters. While Bryn is also embracing the role of little sister well so you can imagine the squabbles 😉
We celebrated her birthday over the weekend at a local park with just a few of her friends. It was My Little Pony themed (naturally) and we kept it simple with pizza and juice boxes. The kids enjoyed bouncing in our bounce house and the highlight of the day was when a baby alligator was spotted in the creek. Chris said later how you forget how much you loved birthdays when you were a kid … until you see your own filled with joy at their own. Emmalyne reacted with amazement when she opened each and every present. Hugs were given to all.
These years are going by faster than I ever thought was possibly. I wanted to stop time this weekend and soak up every last second. Emjie tells me everyday that she is getting taller and one day she’ll be big like me and my heart breaks because I know how quickly that day will actually come. However, right now I am content to know that I have the happiest, kindest, silliest little four-year-old in the land and she’s one who still needs her mama’s snuggles at night.
Happiest of birthdays Emmalyne – You are my sunshine!
