I did something the other day that I haven’t done in I don’t even know how long … I laced up my running shoes and hit the pavement.
I used to love running. I even have ran a few races. But for some reason PA school has sucked the running out of me and I am finding that I am missing it. Did you know I haven’t ran a race since last February?! Insane. SO one of my goals for the year is to get back into running. I am not setting mileage goals, heck I haven’t even registered for a race. I have my eye on a few this spring but I am going to see where the pavement takes me. Instead I decided I want to run for the love of running. Why? Because I NEED it.
Running provides me some “zone out’ time. I instantly feel the stress start to creep out of my shoulders when I am on the road. Half the time I don’t even run with music because I just get lost in my thoughts. Thoughts that I don’t always have time to think about with my crazy schedule. Running is a form of therapy for me and I owe it to myself to make it a priority. Even if it’s just a couple times a week. I’m not picky … just a little bit goes a long way.
Don’t get me wrong. I am still LOVING my Insanity MAX30 workouts and I have goals in regards to building muscle this year. Those things aren’t going to fall by the wayside. Instead I want to mix things up and have a healthy rotation of different kinds of workouts. Variety is the spice of life and it sure adds spice to mine. AND it keeps me from getting bored 😉
So how did that run go you might ask? In one word: humbling. I am not a natural born runner. I have had to work HARD to decrease my times and increase my distance. I envy those that it comes easily too because that will never be me. But that doesn’t matter. All that matters is that I run for myself and push a little harder to maybe get a little better. I was pretty proud that I help a sub-10 minute pace for my three miles but it was hard.
Here’s to falling back in love with running!
What’s your favorite way to workout? How about to relieve stress? For me the best stress relievers are running and yoga 🙂
