Edited to add: if you’re pregnant or a new mom and find yourself falling into the comparison trap you might want to skip this post. I got really lucky this pregnancy with my post baby body progress. While sharing this aspect of my life might make others think negatively about themselves I try to keep things real here. After documenting my journey with Em (and all my struggles) I want to document it with Bryn too. However, I don’t want my journey to negatively impact someone else’s thinking.
Two marks two weeks since I had Bryn and I can’t believe it has gone so fast! With Emmalyne growing in a blink of an eye I have been extra appreciative of every newborn snuggle because I know this stage goes by in an instant. The best part (other that soaking up newborn cuteness of course) is that I don’t FEEL like I just had a baby. I thought today would be the perfect time to update you guys a bit on my postpartum recovery.
How I Feel
I am honestly feeling great! I didn’t tear with Bryn and therefore recovery has been a ton easier. By the time I left the hospital I was feeling pretty darn normal and that was only 36 hours after she was born. I knew that more often than not recovery is easier with your second baby but I wasn’t anticipating it being quite this easy. I know I am lucky. I have been able to get out and about whenever I want and that feels so good! In fact, hours after arriving home from the hospital my mom and I had to run to Carters to get Bryn some newborn clothes since we had literally two sleepers since Em was so big when she was born.
Breastfeeding couldn’t be going better. Other than some initial nipple soreness the first few days we have had zero problems. Bryn latched correctly from the beginning and has been a nursing champ. Our biggest issue was having to wake her to eat because she would rather sleep. Now my only issue is a pretty epic supply. Bryn is a lazy nurser in middle of the night and I have found myself pumping sometime between 2:30-3AM. The upside to this is I have a pretty good freezer stash going 😉
I had to go to the OB on Monday for an unrelated issue but at the same time got the OK to start easing back into working out. Music to my ears! While I am feeling pretty normal I know that I need to take it slow in this area. I have done two easy and short workouts since then. I did 1.5 miles of jog/walk intervals and then another 20 minutes of incline walking. I felt really good after both of these and am excited to keep at it.
Post Baby Body
I posted my one-week update last week for you guys but I wanted to touch base again today. I am truly amazed at how much as already changed. I feel about 1000x more confident this time than I did with the Emster. Also, my body is bouncing back much quicker than it did with her. I attribute this to being in better shape when I got pregnant and then maintaining my fitness throughout my pregnancy. Good genetics probably played a role too. Regardless, I have some muscle mass to regain and I can’t wait to lift heavy again.
That’s about all I got for you guys right now! If you have any more specific questions I would be happy to answer them. Have a happy Thursday 🙂
