One of my favorite parts about blogging is that I started this blog as I was nearing the end of my pregnancy with Emmalyne and captured so many of her special moments and milestones in words. I am so very excited to have the same opportunity to document Bryn’s! You see, it’s hard sometimes as a mama to remember the little things a year or two down the road and having them in writing brings it all back so you can capture it forever.
I plan on doing monthly updates with Bryn the same way I did with Emmalyne but wanted to give you guy san update now that she is a week (well as of today technically 11 days old) since babies change SO MUCH in their first few weeks of life!
Bryn is at this moment such an easy-going baby. Somehow this doesn’t surprise me since she was pretty relaxed in the womb with mainly gentle rolls and nudges and few karate kicks like her sister. When she was born she barely made a sound and instead opened her eyes to take the world in. That really hasn’t changed very much since! She rarely cries and when she does it’s for a reason. I have already learned she has a distinct “change me NOW” cry and when she is hungry. We have been fighting a little bit with gas but even that seems to have evened out a bit. Bryn loves to snuggle and is happiest when she is curled up in our arms. We will see how much any of this changes this week 😉
We had her newborn photo session on Friday and she was the best little model! My friend Megan of Megan Myrick Photography took her photos and sent me this sneak peek … I can’t wait to see the rest! Megan is an exceptional photographer and person so if you’re local I highly recommend you checking her out! I don’t know how I will ever choose from the photos.
How is breastfeeding going?
Bryn latched right on in the hospital and has been doing great ever since. The nurses commented on how well she was latching too. Not going to lie, I had forgotten how sore the girls are the first couple of days of breastfeeding though. I stocked up on some Earth Mama Nipple Butter to help them out. Right now Bryn is eating every 2-3 hours during the day and around every 3-3.5 hours at night. She is an efficient nurser so feedings take 10-20 minutes. We have also introduced a bottle of pumped twice and she took to it right away. As for me, in the middle of the night she isn’t always very hungry so I have found myself pumping instead to help with some engorgement issues.
Are we sleeping?
Bryn has been an exceptionally sleepy baby so far. I know it can take as many as 12 weeks for newborns to “wake up”. She spends most of the hours of the day sleeping with fleeting moments of alertness. At night she is getting up around midnight and 3AM which isn’t too bad at all! Again, we will see how long this lasts 😉
So far Bryn has fit seamlessly into our family and the transition from 3 to 4 has gone really well. The true test will be tomorrow when my mom leaves and we no longer have an extra set of hands. Chris also goes back to work this week so I will be on my own. Not going to lie – I’m a little bit nervous!
I hope you guys had a fantastic weekend and have a wonderful Monday 🙂
