Before getting into this week’s bump date I want to take a second to say Happy Veteran’s Day to all the veterans out there. I am so grateful for your service to our country. Thank you for being willing to leave your families for months on end and put your life on the long to protect our freedoms. A very special thanks to the vets in my life:
My husband – Afghanistan
My dad – Vietnam (Purple Heart)
My brother-in-law Brian – Iraq
My brother-in-law Jason – Iraq (twice)
Our Army family
Since Chris’ Change of Command on Thursday we have been pretty relaxed. It was nice knowing that no phone calls would be coming over the long weekend! My in-laws are in town so Emmalyne has been having a lot of fun with Grandma and Grandpa! We’ve also gotten some stuff done around the house and even got to go on a date night to the movies. WIN. It’s a good thing we have snuck one in because as of now I am full term pregnant at 37 weeks pregnant!
What is baby up to at 37 weeks pregnant?
- Baby is the size of a bunch of swiss chard – or 6 1/3 pounds and over 19 inches long
- Baby is packing on about a 1/2 pound a week
- She’s running out of room so she’s probably kicking less and rolling, stretching, and wiggling more
- Baby is technically considered “early term” now. OBs changed the guidance very recently. 37-38 weeks is now early term, 39-40 is full term, and 41-42 is late, however, few babies born at 37 weeks need specific medical care.
How is mama feeling?
Weight Gain: Sitting at 21 pounds gained. Still on a pizza roll kick but also trying to eat balanced meals when I can. Veggies once again sound terrible so we will see.
Fitness: I pretty much took the last week off minus a few walks. My appointment with my OB last week made me a little nervous about an imminent arrival for Baby B. I decided to take it easy for the week to get the contractions to chill out and keep this baby cooking longer. I am going to be sticking with walking and maybe some weights for the remainder of pregnancy. I am thankful that I was able to run until 36 weeks pregnant and can’t wait to get back at it after delivery (and recovery).
Baby Position: In case you missed it last week, baby has flipped! She is now head down and engaged in the pelvis and my OB has given her the green light for labor whenever she is ready. Her being engaged in my pelvis also means I am officially waddling and pretty uncomfortable 😉
Labor Signs: As of last week I was 60% effaced and the baby had dropped down into the pelvis. I have also been having some pretty intense contractions that the OB said was prodromal labor. Fun times 😉
Nesting: I am definitely in “clean all the things” stage. I cleaned our washing machine yesterday, the outdoor fridge, and want to do all the couch cushions today. I’ve been washing the kitchen floor (being on hands and knees is a good positioning tool too!) and Chris finished up organizing the garage. Next up – all the bottles, paris, and pumping tools.
Are we ready? I feel like this is a post in itself. Hospital bag is packed. For the most part we are physically ready. I have one last order coming from Amazon that should be here tomorrow and after that we should be good to go. I am spending time today finishing up the nursery. Having a baby is kind of abstract to me until I actually give birth. I have a hard time wrapping my head around the concept despite the pokes and prods. I know our life is about to change again but prefer to take it all on as each step happens. Until then, I am soaking up my life as just being Emmalyne’s mom. I have a hard time thinking about what life with my girls will be like until we are living it. I am so excited for that adventure though!
