So this last weekend I ran my first 1/2 marathon! I am SO proud of myself for finishing the darn race. I convinced one of my best friends Melanie to run it with me, along with several other fabulous ladies (and one hard core guy who did the full).
Melanie, Alan, and I drove down to San Antonio on Saturday morning. We went straight to the Alamodome to get our race numbers and swag bags. From there we dropped Alan off to watch the Virginia Tech game and Melanie and I explored San Antonio a little bit. I love the architecture and the vibe of the River Walk area. I wish ‘The Hood’ was that cool! 🙂 We met my other great friend Moriah, her hubby Elias (who came all the way from Afghanistan to cheer her on!), Megan, Maegan, and Maegan’s friend Lauren for dinner at Dick’s Last Resort. SO much fun! We tried to hit the hay early because our 5AM would be coming early.
5AM came just as fast as we thought it would. We got up, geared up and headed to the start line. The energy down there was amazing! We were in corral 15 so we started about 20 mins after corral 1. Melanie and I paced ourselves really well throughout the whole race. I felt really good until about mile 11. Then the killer hip pain started. I got really frustrated/bitter because I wasn’t out of breath, knew I could push harder, but the pain was honestly too intense. 🙁 Regardless, I finished 13.1 miles in 2 hours and 42 minutes. That isn’t the best time in the world but something to work on for the NEXT one…
On that note….My next 1/2 marathon is Feb. 20 – training starts Monday!
The start line!! AHH!!
